Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 May Get Offline Gemini Support

Samsung could soon make Gemini more useful on its latest smartwatches by bringing offline support to the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The feature is expected to let users perform several basic tasks through voice commands even when an internet connection is unavailable.

Both smartwatches already support Google Gemini and run on Wear OS 7 with One UI 9 Watch. Reports now suggest that Samsung may eventually enable some offline Gemini capabilities on these devices through a future software update.

The possibility is gaining attention because Google has already introduced offline Gemini functionality on the Pixel Watch 5. Since Samsung’s latest watches use the same Wear OS generation, there is speculation that similar functionality could reach compatible Galaxy Watch models.

Offline Gemini would mainly be useful for simple commands that do not require cloud based processing. Users could potentially ask the watch to set a timer, switch the water lock on or off, turn on the flashlight or control certain connectivity settings without relying on an active internet connection.

Some fitness and entertainment commands could also benefit from the feature. Starting a workout, controlling music playback and adjusting volume are among the tasks that could potentially be handled directly on the watch when offline support becomes available.

This could make a noticeable difference in situations where a smartwatch is being used without a connected phone or where mobile or Wi Fi connectivity is temporarily unavailable. Instead of waiting for a command to reach an online service, supported tasks could be processed directly on the device.

The hardware inside the new Galaxy Watch models could also play an important role. According to reports, offline Gemini requires a newer version of the Gemini application and suitable processing hardware. The Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 use the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, which could provide the processing capability needed for selected on device AI functions.

However, offline Gemini should not be confused with a complete version of the online Gemini experience. An offline assistant would have limitations because more complex questions and tasks generally require access to online services. The expected feature would instead focus on practical commands that can be processed locally.

For smartwatch users, that distinction could actually make the feature more useful in everyday situations. A person starting a workout, setting a countdown or controlling music does not necessarily need an internet connection for those actions. Keeping such commands available offline could make the watch feel more independent.

The feature could also be useful during outdoor activities. Users may not always have their smartphone nearby or may find themselves in areas with weak connectivity. Having selected voice controls available directly on the watch could reduce dependence on the phone for basic functions.

At present, Samsung has not officially confirmed when offline Gemini will arrive on the Galaxy Watch 9 or Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The company has also not provided a final list of commands that would be supported in an offline mode.

The availability of the feature could depend on the software version, Gemini application version and device compatibility. Users may therefore need to install a future update before the functionality becomes available.

For now, Galaxy Watch owners will have to wait for an official announcement from Samsung. If the company does bring offline Gemini to its latest smartwatches, the update could add a practical new layer to the voice assistant experience without requiring an internet connection for every basic command.
