OnePlus 16 May Get Custom Display With 185Hz Refresh Rate

OnePlus 16 is expected to feature a custom BOE display with lower power consumption, slimmer bezels, and gaming focused technology aimed at challenging Samsung premium smartphones.

OnePlus 16 is already attracting attention ahead of its expected launch, with fresh reports focusing on a major upgrade to its display technology. The upcoming smartphone is reportedly being developed with a custom panel that could give it an advantage in both power efficiency and gaming performance.

According to a report attributed to tipster Digital Chat Station, the phone could use a new BOE panel based on X4 light emitting material. The technology is expected to consume less power than the X3 material used in earlier panels.

A display designed for better battery life

The reported move to the newer X4 material could help reduce the amount of power consumed by the screen during everyday use. That could eventually translate into better battery endurance, although the actual improvement will depend on the final hardware and software configuration.

The display is also expected to have noticeably slimmer bezels, giving the phone a more modern appearance.

Gaming could be a major focus

OnePlus is reportedly preparing the OnePlus 16 with a 185Hz refresh rate, a feature that could make the device particularly interesting to mobile gamers. A higher refresh rate can make supported games and animations appear smoother.

The company is also said to be preparing gaming focused technologies called the Fengchi Gaming Engine and Esports Triple Core Technology. These features are expected to focus on improving gaming performance and responsiveness.

Could challenge Samsung displays

The reported BOE X4 panel is said to be capable of competing with displays used in Samsung smartphones. However, these claims are based on leaks and early information, so the actual display quality can only be judged after the phone is officially launched and tested.

Expected OnePlus 16 specifications

The OnePlus 16 is currently tipped to feature a 6.78 inch display and a large 9000mAh battery. The smartphone could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.

Camera specifications are also expected to receive an upgrade, with reports pointing towards a 200 megapixel primary camera.

The phone could arrive in multiple memory configurations. A 12GB RAM and 256GB storage version has been tipped to cost around 815 dollars, which would be roughly Rs 78000. Another variant with 8GB RAM could be priced around Rs 75000.

These specifications and prices remain unconfirmed until OnePlus makes an official announcement. More details about the OnePlus 16 are likely to emerge as the launch approaches.
