Amazfit T Rex Dual Solar Launches With 25 Day Battery

Amazfit has introduced the T Rex Dual Solar, a rugged smartwatch designed for people who spend considerable time outdoors and do not want to depend on frequent charging. The watch combines two solar panels with a large battery and a bright AMOLED display.

The biggest change is the dual solar charging arrangement. One solar panel is positioned around the front display, while another larger octagonal panel sits on the rear of the watch. According to Amazfit, the rear panel is around twice the size of the front panel, allowing it to collect solar energy even when the watch is removed and placed somewhere with sunlight.

Amazfit says the front solar panel can add up to nine additional days of battery life when the watch receives around three hours of exposure to 50,000 lux sunlight every day. Under normal usage, the company claims the smartwatch can run for as long as 25 days on a charge.

For people using GPS extensively, battery life naturally becomes shorter. The company says continuous use of its most accurate GPS mode can provide around 41 hours of operation. This makes the watch particularly relevant for trekking, hiking and other activities where access to a charger may be limited.

The display is another major feature. The T Rex Dual Solar has a 1.32 inch AMOLED panel with peak brightness of up to 3000 nits. The high brightness is designed to make information easier to read outdoors, particularly under strong sunlight.

Amazfit has also used premium materials for the watch body. It comes with a Grade 5 titanium bezel and sapphire glass for improved resistance against scratches. The watch carries a 10 ATM water resistance rating, adding protection for water related activities and outdoor use.

The rugged design is accompanied by several emergency and practical features. A built in flashlight can provide illumination when needed, while an SOS beacon is included for emergency situations.

Navigation is a major part of the T Rex Dual Solar experience. The smartwatch comes with full colour maps and route planning features that can help users follow trails without constantly relying on a smartphone. It can also provide information about gradients during climbs.

Users can store up to 100 routes on the watch at one time. New routes can also be created directly from the smartwatch without using a phone. If a person moves away from the planned route, the device can generate a new route to help them continue their journey.

Another useful feature is LiveShare. Selected contacts can view the users location in real time, which can be particularly useful during outdoor activities where family members or friends may want to know where the person is.

The watch also brings several training related functions. Its HybridCharge system combines information about training load, recovery and daily strain into a score designed to give users a broader view of their activity and recovery.

For people following structured training plans, the smartwatch supports plans from TrainingPeaks, Runna and Intervals.icu. Completed workouts can also be synchronised with Strava, allowing users to keep their activities within their existing fitness records.

Amazfit has also designed the watch to work with its wider health and fitness ecosystem. Users who own an Amazfit Helio Strap can connect it with the watch through the Zepp application. The app can combine information from both devices to provide additional recovery related insights.

The T Rex Dual Solar is not positioned as a conventional smartwatch focused only on notifications and basic fitness tracking. Its design is clearly aimed at outdoor users who need navigation, longer battery life, durability and access to training information during extended activities.

The watch is priced at 649.99 dollars, which is around Rs 62,200 based on the supplied conversion. It is already available for purchase. The package includes a silicone strap and a USB Type C charging base, although a separate charging cable is not included.

Amazfit has also focused on packaging, with the company stating that the packaging is fully recyclable. While solar charging does not completely remove the need for conventional charging, the dual panel system is intended to reduce how frequently users need to connect the watch to a charger.

With its combination of solar charging, rugged construction, bright AMOLED screen, mapping tools and training features, the T Rex Dual Solar is aimed at users who spend long periods outdoors.
