DK Shivakumar Set to Take Oath as Karnataka Chief Minister Today

A major political transition unfolds in Karnataka as DK Shivakumar prepares to assume office as Chief Minister, marking a new phase for the Congress government.

Karnataka is set to witness a significant political milestone as senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar prepares to take oath as the state’s Chief Minister. The swearing in ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, where Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot will administer the oath of office.

The event is expected to mark the end of a long political journey for Shivakumar, who has often been described as one of the Congress party’s most influential strategists and crisis managers. A veteran leader and eight time MLA, he was unanimously chosen as the Congress Legislature Party leader following the resignation of Siddaramaiah.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Shivakumar described the opportunity as the result of years of dedication and hard work. He also thanked the Nehru Gandhi family for placing their trust in him and outlined his vision of a new era focused on the welfare of farmers, women and youth across Karnataka.

Along with the new Chief Minister, around 13 ministers are expected to take oath in the first phase of cabinet formation. While the Congress party has not officially announced the complete list, several senior leaders are likely to be included in the initial council of ministers.

Political sources indicate that senior Dalit leader G Parameshwara is expected to assume the role of Deputy Chief Minister. The cabinet formation is being designed to maintain a balance among various social groups and regions across the state. Senior leader HK Patil is also being considered for the post of Assembly Speaker.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been entrusted with a key responsibility at the national level. The Congress high command has appointed him as a member of the Congress Working Committee, the party’s highest decision making body. The appointment reflects the leadership’s confidence in his experience and role in facilitating a smooth political transition.

The swearing in ceremony is expected to draw several prominent guests, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, leaders from the INDIA alliance and religious heads from different institutions. In a notable development, the main stage at the venue was reportedly reoriented based on astrological advice ahead of the high profile event.

With Shivakumar set to assume office, the Congress hopes to open a new chapter in Karnataka politics while focusing on governance, development and organizational strengthening in the state.
