Police Intensify Hunt in Murder of Retired IPS Officer’s Wife in Hyderabad
Police teams have expanded their investigation into the murder of a retired IPS officer’s wife in Hyderabad after suspects allegedly escaped by train following a robbery at the residence.

Hyderabad police have accelerated the investigation into the murder of a retired IPS officer’s wife at Jubilee Hills. Investigators suspect the accused fled the city by boarding the Telangana Express from Nampally railway station after committing the crime.
Officials released CCTV images of the suspects and launched a large scale search operation across multiple states. Special police teams have reportedly been sent to cities including Mumbai, Lucknow, and Delhi, while another team has reached areas near the Nepal border.
Domestic Worker Under Scanner
Police are also examining the background of a domestic worker named Kalpana, who had been working at the house for nearly a year. Investigators believe she may have assisted the accused in planning the robbery and murder.
According to officials, police teams visited locations in Lucknow where the worker had previously been employed to gather more information about her contacts and past activities. Authorities are also trying to identify two young men who were reportedly seen with her before the incident.
Murder Discovered by Daughter
The victim, identified as Tanuja, was living with her family in a three storey house in Jubilee Hills. Her husband, a retired senior police officer, had reportedly travelled to Bengaluru for medical treatment a few days before the incident.
The crime came to light when a carpenter arrived at the house for repair work and contacted the family. When the victim’s daughter went downstairs to check, she found her mother tied up inside the bedroom. Family members and security staff rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Suspects Planned Crime in Advance
Investigators believe the accused had been conducting surveillance near the residence for at least two days before the crime. CCTV footage reportedly showed the domestic worker signaling towards a nearby park late at night, after which three unidentified men entered the house.
Police suspect the group directly targeted the victim’s room, tied her hands and legs, and stole jewellery and cash from the house before escaping with large bags in the early morning hours.
Officials believe the victim may have died due to suffocation after cloth was forced into her mouth during the robbery attempt. Forensic teams, dog squads, and clue teams have collected evidence from the crime scene as the investigation continues.
