Hyderabad Global Knowledge Hub: Hyderabad Moves Closer to Becoming a Global Knowledge Hub
Telangana is stepping up efforts to bring leading global universities to Hyderabad, with plans covering international campuses, executive education, research centres and industry focused learning.
Hyderabad Global Knowledge Hub: The Telangana government is in talks with a number of internationally renowned universities about establishing academic and research projects in Hyderabad, positioning the city for a greater role in global higher education.
While Northeastern University is planning to set up an offshore campus at the proposed Future City, the University of London is likely to open a campus at Hyderabad. The state is also looking at ways to bring specialized programs from top universities to Hyderabad.
Harvard University has expressed interest in offering executive education and short-term courses to business and government executives. Programs at Virginia Tech that emphasize future education and skills in line with industry demands are being examined.
Discussions are also underway with the London School of Economics and Political Science and SOAS University of London over courses and offshore classrooms in Hyderabad. Oxford University has expressed interest in establishing shared research centres and Centres of Excellence in the state.
Representatives from Telangana are also engaging with institutions including Oxford, Harvard, MIT, Cambridge and Imperial College London. The proposed collaborations are expected to bring international faculty and specialised higher education programmes closer to students and working professionals in the state.
The Dr MCR HRD Institute is also expected to host short term and executive education programmes involving global academic expertise. The broader plan is aimed at improving access to international quality education while strengthening Hyderabad’s position as a knowledge and innovation centre.
The government sees global education partnerships as one part of its larger ambition to build a 3 trillion dollar Telangana economy by 2047. A dedicated global education track is also planned for the Invest Telangana Global Summit scheduled for December 7, 8 and 9.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has said the focus is on giving young people access to world class education and skills while creating stronger links between universities, industry and the state’s future economic needs.
