Tilak Varma Hits Century: South Zone finished the third day on 285 for nine after starting the day at 40 for two. The team now holds a useful 90 run advantage after North Zone was bowled out for 195 in the first innings.

The biggest moment of the day came from captain Tilak Varma, who held his nerve through a tense final phase to complete an unbeaten century. He was not out on 106 from 225 balls, with seven boundaries to his name.

Tilak found a dependable partner in Shreyas Gopal, and the pair changed the course of the innings. Coming in at No. 7, Gopal scored 88 from 169 balls as the two added 175 runs for the sixth wicket.

South Zone appeared firmly in control at 254 for five, but the innings suddenly lost momentum. Gopal fell while closing in on his hundred, dismissed by Arshdeep Singh. Tanay Thyagarajan then departed for six, while Arshdeep also removed Vidwath Kaverappa for a duck.

The pressure increased when Nidhish was run out without scoring, leaving South Zone at 270 for nine. Tilak, meanwhile, was still on 91 and had to guide the tail through the final stretch.

He handled the situation calmly. After taking two runs in the 92nd over to keep the strike, Tilak found the boundary twice from the final two deliveries of the over to reach his century.

Earlier, Vidwath Kaverappa was instrumental in North Zone’s first innings, taking four wickets for 66 runs as North Zone were dismissed for 195.

South Zone will now look to add to its lead while Tilak remains at the crease, leaving North Zone with the task of finding a way back into the semifinal.
