Chasing a target of 201, the visitors were bowled out for just 76, recording their biggest defeat by runs in T20 internationals.
Following the loss, captain Shreyas Iyer openly accepted that the team failed to deliver in every aspect of the game. He described the performance as completely unacceptable and admitted that India could not execute its plans with either bat or ball.
Iyer said the bowlers struggled to make use of the conditions despite the pitch offering assistance to those hitting hard lengths. He also felt conceding 200 runs on a surface like Trent Bridge was well below the team’s expectations.
The Indian batting lineup never recovered after losing crucial wickets during the powerplay. According to Iyer, the early setbacks disrupted the chase and prevented the team from building any meaningful partnerships or momentum.
The captain added that planning in team meetings alone is not enough, as players must quickly adapt to changing match situations once they step onto the field. He stressed that the team cannot remain disappointed for long and must accept the defeat before focusing on making a stronger comeback.
The defeat also became India’s heaviest loss by runs in T20 internationals, surpassing the previous record of an 80 run defeat against New Zealand in 2019. It added to India’s recent struggles after the team lost the T20 series against Ireland last month. Since Shreyas Iyer took over the captaincy, India is yet to register its first victory.
