Neeraj Chopra Reaches Commonwealth Games Javelin Final Alongside Two Indian Athletes
Neeraj Chopra and two fellow Indian athletes qualified for the Commonwealth Games javelin final after the qualification round while Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage topped the standings with the best throw.
India will have three representatives in the Commonwealth Games men’s javelin final after Neeraj Chopra, Yash Veer Singh and Rohit Yadav secured qualification with solid performances in Glasgow.
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra finished fifth in the qualification standings after registering a best throw of 79.61 metres. Although he did not produce his longest effort, the distance was enough to comfortably book a place in the final.
Rohit Yadav also advanced with a throw of 78.37 metres to finish ninth, while Yash Veer Singh followed closely in tenth place after recording 78.36 metres. Their performances ensured that all three Indian athletes remained in contention for medals.
Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage emerged as the top performer in the qualification round with an impressive throw of 82.84 metres. Despite leading the field, he also fell short of the automatic qualification mark of 84 metres, a target that no athlete managed to achieve.
Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem also progressed to the final after recording a best throw of 73.63 metres. While his effort was below his personal best, it was enough to secure a place in the medal round.
The Commonwealth Games javelin final is scheduled to take place on August 1, where the qualified athletes will compete for podium finishes. With three Indian throwers in the final, the country will be hoping for a strong performance in one of the marquee athletics events.
