India Women Olympic Berth: India Women may have endured a disappointing campaign in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, but the team has received a major boost with confirmation of its qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The qualification was confirmed by the International Cricket Council and the International Olympic Committee.
Although Harmanpreet Kaur’s side failed to progress beyond the group stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup, India finished as the best performing Asian team in the tournament. That achievement was enough to secure an Olympic berth for the country.
India joins Australia, England and South Africa among the teams that have already qualified for the cricket competition at the 2028 Olympics. The remaining places will be filled through the qualification process before the Games begin.
The 2028 Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, where cricket will make its long awaited return to the Olympic programme. The sport was last featured at the Olympics in 1900, making its comeback after more than a century.
The cricket competition at the Los Angeles Olympics will feature six teams, offering players another opportunity to compete on one of the biggest sporting stages in the world. For India Women, the Olympic qualification comes as a timely morale booster after their World Cup campaign ended earlier than expected.
Despite the disappointment of missing the T20 World Cup semifinals, the confirmed Olympic berth provides fresh motivation for the team as it prepares for the historic return of cricket to the Olympic Games in 2028.
