Indian boxers delivered a record breaking performance by winning seven gold medals in a single day while para athletes also added memorable victories at the Commonwealth Games.

India enjoyed one of its greatest days in Commonwealth Games history as its boxers produced a sensational performance in Glasgow, winning seven gold medals in a single day. The remarkable achievement established a new national record for the highest number of boxing gold medals won by India at a single edition of the Games.

The golden run began with Preeti Pawar, who claimed the women’s 54 kilogram title with a commanding victory over Canada’s Scarlett Savana. Her success was followed by equally impressive performances from Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Choudhary, Priya Ghanghas and Arundhati Choudhary, all of whom captured gold medals in their respective weight categories.

India’s men also continued the medal rush as Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal delivered outstanding displays in their finals. Sachin fought back strongly after a slow start to defeat Namibia’s Morning Endevelo, while Ankush produced a composed performance to overcome England’s Dimeji Shittu and secure another gold for the country.

Although Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain narrowly missed the top podium after finishing with a silver medal, India’s overall boxing campaign remained historic. Jadumani Singh and Narender Berwal also secured silver medals, taking India’s boxing tally to seven gold and three silver medals.

Para athlete Soman Rana won gold in the men’s F57 shot put with a throw of 13.40 metres, while fellow Indian Shubham Juyal claimed the silver medal in the same event. Soman’s victory marked an inspiring chapter in his sporting journey after he transitioned from boxing to para athletics following a life changing injury.

The Commonwealth Games also witnessed Tejaswin Shankar earning a historic bronze medal in the decathlon despite competing through a knee injury. He became the first Indian athlete to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the event, demonstrating remarkable determination throughout the competition.

India added another medal through Unnati Sharma, who secured bronze in the women’s 63 kilogram judo category.
