India Cricket Team Makes Coaching Changes Ahead of Sri Lanka Test Series

Team India will head into the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka with changes to its support staff after the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided not to extend the contracts of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia clarified that both contracts expired in June and stressed that neither coach was removed nor resigned from the role. He said their departure was simply the result of the completion of their contractual terms. The board is currently evaluating a shortlist of candidates for the fielding coach position and is expected to announce a replacement within the next few days.

Ryan ten Doeschate joined the Indian coaching setup after Gautam Gambhir became head coach. During his tenure, he was part of the support staff that worked with the team in major tournaments, including the ICC T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy. He is now set to take up an important role with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Meanwhile, T Dilip, who had been associated with the national team since Rahul Dravid served as head coach, is also moving on. Reports suggest the decision followed an internal review of the team’s recent fielding standards, which were considered below expectations.

Former first class cricketer Shubdeep Ghosh has emerged as a leading contender for the vacant fielding coach position. He brings extensive coaching experience from the India women’s team, India A, the Under 19 setup and the National Cricket Academy.

The Test series against Sri Lanka is scheduled to begin on August 15 in Galle and carries significant importance for India’s campaign in the World Test Championship standings.
