Delhi Capitals batter Abhishek Porel has reportedly been arrested in Bengal following rape allegations by a medical student who accused him of making false marriage promises.
Abhishek Porel Arrest: Delhi Capitals cricketer Abhishek Porel has been arrested in Bengal in connection with a rape allegation case, according to police officials.
The 24 year old left hand batter was taken into custody by police in the Imami City area under the Dum Dum police station limits. Hooghly Rural Police Superintendent Kunwar Bhushan Singh confirmed the arrest.
The case was registered in June after a medical student accused Porel of sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions. She alleged that the two had been in a relationship for around three years and claimed that he had distanced himself from her over the past year.
According to her complaint, Porel allegedly promised to marry her and later sexually assaulted her several times. She also alleged that he had recorded private videos and was using them to threaten her.
The Kolkata High Court had directed police to seize Porel’s mobile phone and other electronic devices in connection with the case. The court also ordered authorities to take him into custody.
Porel has denied the allegations against him and described the claims as untrue. The case is now under investigation, and the allegations have not been established in court.
Porel made his IPL debut in 2023 and has represented Delhi Capitals since then. He has played 35 IPL matches and scored 769 runs.
The Bengal cricketer has also represented India A, including matches played in the UK and Australia. He made his first class debut for Bengal during the 2021 22 season and has since featured in 32 first class matches and 23 List A games.
