Daily Sugar Intake Limit You Should Know For Better Health

Excess sugar consumption is rising through common foods and drinks, making awareness about safe daily limits important for preventing lifestyle related health issues.

Sugar has become a regular part of modern diets, often consumed through tea, coffee, soft drinks, packaged juices, sweets, bakery items and processed foods. Many people consume more sugar than they realise because it is hidden in several everyday products.

Health experts warn that excessive sugar intake over time can increase the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart related problems and other lifestyle disorders. To reduce these risks, the World Health Organization recommends keeping daily added sugar consumption within a controlled limit.

According to WHO guidelines, added sugars should contribute less than 10 percent of a person’s total daily calorie intake. For additional health benefits, reducing this amount to below 5 percent is recommended.

For most healthy adults, this means limiting added sugar to around 25 grams or six teaspoons per day. This limit applies to sugar added to tea, coffee, desserts, soft drinks, packaged foods and sweets. Naturally occurring sugars found in foods like fruits and milk are not included in this recommendation.

Reducing sugar intake can bring several positive changes to the body. Maintaining lower sugar consumption helps with weight management and supports stable blood glucose levels. It can also reduce the chances of developing diabetes, improve heart health and lower the risk of dental problems.

People who cut down on excessive sugar may also notice improvements in energy levels, skin health and sleep quality. A balanced diet with fewer processed foods can support overall well being and long term health.

Several commonly consumed products contain high amounts of hidden sugar. Soft drinks, packaged fruit juices, energy drinks, biscuits, cakes, chocolates, sweets, flavoured yogurts, breakfast cereals, ketchup, sauces and ready to eat meals often contain significant added sugar.

Nutrition experts suggest checking food labels carefully before buying packaged products. Choosing items with lower sugar content and replacing sugary snacks with healthier alternatives can help control daily sugar intake.

Making small changes in eating habits can have a major impact on health. Being aware of hidden sugar sources and following recommended limits can help people maintain a healthier lifestyle while still enjoying their favourite foods in moderation.
