Ram Gopal Varma Warns AI Could Replace Thinking Jobs

Ram Gopal Varma has once again shared a strong opinion on technology, this time warning about the impact artificial intelligence could have on employment and human creativity.

In a detailed post on X, the filmmaker said people who fail to adapt to AI could be the first to lose their jobs. According to him, technology has always been developed to make life easier by reducing physical effort and saving time.

Varma drew a comparison between the Industrial Revolution and the current AI boom. He said the Industrial Revolution reduced the need for human physical strength in many areas, while AI could now take over tasks that depend on thinking and mental ability.

He also pointed out that people have traditionally wanted more free time by using technology to avoid repetitive or difficult work. In his view, AI may take that idea much further by handling an increasing number of tasks that were previously done by people.

Varma described physical strength and the human brain as two important assets people have relied on for work. While machines gradually replaced physical labour, he believes AI is now beginning to challenge the role of human intelligence in the workplace.

His comments come at a time when AI tools are rapidly finding their way into offices, creative industries, software development and several other professions. While the technology is being promoted for improving productivity, concerns over job losses and the changing nature of employment continue to grow.

Meanwhile, Varma remains busy with his filmmaking projects. He is currently working on Police Station Mein Bhoot, which features Manoj Bajpayee and Genelia Deshmukh in the lead roles.

He is also developing another project titled Police Company, with Harshvardhan Rane in the lead. The filmmaker has previously described the film as a story about what can happen when a police system gains excessive power and gradually starts functioning like a company.

Police Company carries the tagline It Is More Dangerous Than D Company. Varma has said the story is set against the backdrop of the Mumbai underworld and explores the vacuum that emerged after differences between Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan.

Harshvardhan Rane is reportedly playing a character inspired by police officer Daya Nayak. The project is among Varma’s other films currently in development.
