Punjab Family Dispute: A domestic dispute in Punjab ended in tragedy after a man who visited his wife’s parental home to reconcile with her was allegedly attacked and set on fire by his brother in law. The shocking incident claimed two lives and has led to the arrest of the accused.

The incident took place on June 13 in Tarn Taran district. According to police, Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Lopoke village in Amritsar district, had gone to his wife’s family home to persuade her to return with him after the couple had been living separately following marital disagreements.

During the visit, an argument reportedly broke out between Lovepreet and his brother in law. Investigators said the confrontation quickly escalated, and the accused allegedly poured a flammable liquid believed to be petrol on Lovepreet before setting him on fire.

Police said CCTV footage captured the sequence of events, showing flames spreading rapidly moments after the attack. Gurjit Kaur, the victim’s sister in law, reportedly rushed to rescue him but suffered severe burn injuries in the process. Lovepreet died soon after the incident, while Gurjit Kaur later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Officials also stated that the accused, Sajan Singh, sustained burn injuries during the incident and was rescued by people present at the scene. He has since been taken into police custody and booked on murder charges.

Investigators further confirmed that the victim’s wife, Sandeep Kaur, has also been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Police said the couple had been married for about nine months, but disputes had led to the wife returning to her parental home, where she had been staying before the fatal incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the attack while examining all available evidence, including the CCTV footage.
