Jharkhand Minister Dies: Jharkhand minister and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Sudivya Kumar Sonu died early Sunday after suffering a heart attack. He was 56.

Sonu fell ill on Saturday night and was taken to a private hospital in Ranchi for treatment. Despite medical care, his condition did not improve and he died at around 4 am on Sunday, according to the information available.

Sonu was serving as Jharkhand’s minister for Higher and Technical Education and Urban Development. He had also handled responsibilities related to tourism, art and culture, sports and youth affairs during his political career.

His political journey gained momentum after he won the Giridih Assembly constituency in the 2019 elections. He later became known as a close associate of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and emerged as an important leader within the JMM.

The news of his death came as a shock to the party and the state government. Hemant Soren expressed deep grief and remembered Sonu as a trusted colleague and guide who remained committed to the Jharkhand movement.

The JMM also mourned the loss, saying his death was a major setback for the party, the government and the people of Jharkhand. Party leaders and supporters have expressed condolences to his family.

Sonu was born on July 26, 1970. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. His sudden death has left his family, party colleagues and supporters grieving.

Only recently, Sonu had travelled to Karnataka while leading a Jharkhand government delegation. During the visit, he studied tourism infrastructure in the state and held discussions with the Karnataka tourism minister on development and related initiatives.

His death has come at a time when he was actively involved in government responsibilities and state development matters. The sudden loss has therefore been felt across both the political and administrative circles of Jharkhand.

For the JMM, Sonu’s association with Hemant Soren and his work in different government departments had made him an important part of the state’s political leadership. His colleagues have remembered his contribution to public affairs and his association with the Jharkhand movement.
