ICU Fire in Muzaffarpur Hospital Kills Three Patients, Probe Underway

An early morning fire in a hospital intensive care unit in Muzaffarpur resulted in three deaths, while emergency teams rescued several patients and shifted them to safety.

A major emergency unfolded in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district after a fire broke out inside a hospital intensive care unit during the early hours of Thursday. The incident resulted in the deaths of three patients and left several others injured.

Rescue teams acted swiftly after receiving information about the fire. Fire department personnel, police officers and hospital staff worked together to evacuate patients from the affected section of the building before the flames could spread further.

Officials said the ICU housed several patients when the fire erupted. Many of them were trapped inside as smoke rapidly filled the ward, creating tense moments for both patients and medical staff.

Two patients lost their lives during the rescue operation, while the remaining victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Later, another patient died while undergoing medical care, raising the number of fatalities to three.

According to fire officials, nearly 15 to 20 people were pulled out of the affected unit and moved to safer locations. Authorities are continuing to monitor the condition of the injured survivors.

Initial investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire. However, experts are examining the site and collecting evidence to establish the exact sequence of events.

District administration officials confirmed that a formal inquiry has been launched. The incident has shocked local residents and raised fresh concerns about emergency preparedness and fire prevention systems in hospitals handling critical care patients.
