The Election Commission has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, setting the stage for an important political contest that could influence the balance of power in Parliament. Polling for 24 seats spread across ten states will take place on June 18, drawing attention from political parties across the country.
The election process will begin in the first week of June with the release of the official notification on June 1. Candidate nominations will start the same day, while June 8 has been fixed as the final date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of submitted nominations will be carried out on June 9, and candidates can withdraw their names until June 11.
Voting for the Rajya Sabha seats is scheduled throughout June 18, and counting of votes will begin later that evening. Election authorities are expected to complete the entire process by June 20.
Political circles in Andhra Pradesh are showing particular interest in the election as four Rajya Sabha seats from the state are also due for polling. The current terms of four members representing Andhra Pradesh will end on June 26, opening the door for fresh contests.
The members completing their six year terms include Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Parimal Nathwani and Sana Satish. Their departures have intensified discussions over which political parties will secure the vacant seats.
With shifting political equations in several states, the outcome of these elections is expected to have an impact beyond state politics. Since Rajya Sabha numbers play a key role in Parliament, parties are closely watching the contest and preparing their strategies accordingly.
