BJP Set for Historic Power Shift in West Bengal

West Bengal is preparing for a major political transition as BJP gears up to form its first government in the state after defeating Trinamool Congress with a massive electoral victory.

A historic political change is set to unfold in West Bengal as the Bharatiya Janata Party prepares to form its first-ever government in the state. After nearly 15 years of Trinamool Congress rule under Mamata Banerjee, the BJP is ready to take control with a commanding electoral mandate.

The swearing in ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9 at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. BJP leaders believe the venue itself carries strong political symbolism, as it was once the stage where Mamata Banerjee launched her major political rise and later ended the Left Front’s 34 year dominance in the state.

The BJP secured a massive victory in the recent Assembly elections by winning 207 seats, while the Trinamool Congress was reduced to just 80 seats. The result is being viewed as one of the biggest political upsets in Bengal’s recent history.

The Brigade Parade Grounds has witnessed several landmark political moments over the decades. From speeches by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to addresses by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the ground has remained deeply connected with major historical events. It was also at this venue that Mamata Banerjee once announced her resignation from Congress as a young leader before building her own political movement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are expected to attend the grand oath taking ceremony. The event is likely to attract lakhs of supporters from across the state.

Meanwhile, speculation continues over the BJP’s chief ministerial choice. The name of Suvendu Adhikari is gaining strong attention after his high profile victory over Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur constituency. Party leaders, however, are yet to make an official announcement.
