EPIC Trailer Controversy: EPIC Director Aditya Haasan Reacts to Trailer Criticism
Director Aditya Haasan says criticism of the EPIC First Semester trailer left him shocked, but support from viewers restored his confidence ahead of the films release.

EPIC Trailer Controversy: Director Aditya Haasan has opened up about the response to the trailer of EPIC First Semester, admitting that the criticism caught him off guard.
Speaking at the films pre release event, Aditya said he had rarely experienced negativity since entering the industry. The sudden backlash to the trailer therefore came as a shock, especially after his earlier work 90s was well received.
He said reading some of the trailer reviews made him feel as though everything had suddenly changed. At the same time, comments from people who continued to believe that he would deliver a good story gave him the confidence to move forward.
Rather than responding to the criticism through words, Aditya said he wanted the film itself to answer those questions. He expressed confidence that EPIC First Semester would stay with audiences even after they leave the theatres.
The film stars Anand Deverakonda in the lead role and is scheduled to reach theatres on September 11. Aditya believes Anand’s character will connect strongly with viewers, particularly because the story explores the pressures young men face.
The director also spoke about his admiration for filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga. He described himself as a huge fan and said Vanga’s approach to creating honest characters has been an important source of inspiration for him.
Vaishnavi Chaitanya is also part of the film, and Aditya revealed that she initially had concerns after hearing about some of the bold scenes in her character. According to him, she took time before agreeing to the role.
Aditya said he personally reassured Vaishnavi and took complete responsibility for the character because he was the person who had written the story. He wanted her to feel confident about taking on the part.
For Aditya, the reaction to the trailer appears to have become an unexpected part of the films journey. With the release now approaching, he is looking to move past the early criticism and let audiences decide whether EPIC First Semester delivers on its promise.
