Doctor Arrested in Bihar Teacher Paper Leak Case After Allegedly Collecting Rs 1.2 Crore
Investigators arrested a doctor accused of leaking teacher recruitment exam papers collecting huge payments from candidates as Bihar strengthens legal action against examination fraud and paper leaks.
The investigation into the Bihar Public Service Commission Teacher Recruitment Examination TRE 3 paper leak has gained momentum with the arrest of a doctor accused of playing a central role in the scam. Officials from the Economic Offences Unit said the accused allegedly collected around Rs 1.2 crore after providing question papers to candidates before the examination.
According to investigators, Dr Manish Kumar supplied the leaked question papers to nearly 30 candidates before the exam held on March 15 2024. The candidates were reportedly accommodated at a hotel in Patna where they received access to the examination material in advance. Authorities claim he charged a commission of Rs 50000 from each candidate as part of the operation.
The probe also revealed that Dr Manish Kumar had developed a method to open sealed question paper boxes without leaving visible signs before resealing them. Officials alleged that he operated the racket with associates identified as Dr Shiv and Dr Shubham.
Although officials raided Kohinoor Hotel in Bhabua on March 14, the accused managed to escape. Investigators later traced him using CCTV footage and technical evidence. His identity was confirmed after examining student records from Patna Medical College Hospital and Nalanda Medical College Hospital. Authorities also stated that he is the son of Sanjeev Mukhiya, who is believed to be the main mastermind behind the paper leak network.
So far, 296 people have been arrested in connection with the case as the investigation continues to uncover the wider conspiracy.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government has announced the establishment of three fast track courts to ensure speedy trials in examination fraud cases. Set up under the Public Examinations Act 2024 following directions from the Patna High Court, the courts are located in Patna Lakhisarai and Purnia.
The Patna court will hear major cases including the TRE 3 paper leak, the constable recruitment scam and the 67th BPSC Preliminary Examination case. The Lakhisarai court will handle the Re NEET examination rigging case, while the Purnia court will deal with cases related to irregularities in the SSC Multi Tasking Staff examination. The government aims to complete trials within three months.
