Thirteen Indian Sailors Remain Stranded Near Ukraine Port Amid Ongoing Attacks

Growing concern surrounds the safety of 13 Indian sailors who remain stranded aboard a cargo vessel near Ukraine’s Chornomorsk port, where repeated drone and missile attacks continue to threaten maritime operations. Their situation has triggered fresh appeals for immediate rescue efforts.
The Forward Seaman Union of India FSUI said the cargo ship MV Amir1 has been unable to leave the conflict affected region and is still anchored close to the port. The vessel is carrying a crew of 15 members, including 13 Indian nationals, who continue to face increasing danger as hostilities persist nearby.
Describing the circumstances as extremely serious, the union warned that the crew is exposed to constant risk while remaining inside an active conflict zone. It stressed that every additional day the vessel stays in the area increases concerns about the safety and well being of those on board.
FSUI has urged the Government of India, the ship’s owners, the vessel’s flag state, and all relevant maritime authorities to coordinate urgent measures for the crew’s evacuation. The union emphasized that swift action is essential to prevent the situation from worsening.
The appeal comes shortly after another tragic incident in the Black Sea, where an Indian seafarer lost his life following a drone strike on the cargo vessel MV Omorfi. That incident has further heightened anxiety within the maritime community over the risks faced by commercial ships operating near the conflict zone.
With military activity continuing around Ukrainian ports, the stranded crew of MV Amir1 remains uncertain about when they will be able to leave safely, while their families and maritime organizations continue to seek immediate intervention.
