A dispute over a toddy palm tree turned deadly in Suryapet district, leaving two men dead after a violent clash between two groups and triggering tension in Erragadda Thanda.

Two Killed in Suryapet Clash: A dispute over a toddy palm tree turned deadly at Erragadda Thanda in Mellacheruvu mandal of Suryapet district on Friday. Two men died in the incident, and a police sub inspector was injured while dealing with the accused.
The matter had been causing friction between the two groups for some time. The tree, which is located beside a house, was at the centre of the dispute. Residents also told police that there had been differences between the two sides in the past.
An argument broke out again on Friday and soon turned into a physical fight. During the clash, Manda Venkateshwarlu, 62, was attacked with an axe and died at the spot.
Saida, 58, was also caught up in the attack when he tried to stop the fight. He was taken to a hospital for treatment but later died of his injuries.
After the incident, locals caught hold of the accused, Peddababu, and locked him inside a room before informing the police. When officers arrived to take him away, he allegedly attacked SI Naveen. The officer suffered an injury to his head during the incident.
The police subsequently tightened security in the area as tension continued in the thanda. Additional personnel were deployed to prevent the situation from turning into another confrontation.
A case has been registered and officers have started examining the events that led to the clash. Evidence is being collected from the spot, while police are also looking into the earlier dispute between the two groups.
The two bodies were sent for postmortem examination. Police are continuing their inquiry into the attack and the circumstances that led to the deaths.
The incident has left residents of Erragadda Thanda shocked, with the sudden escalation of a dispute over a tree resulting in two fatalities.
