Telangana Heatwave Turns Severe as Temperatures Hit 46.3 Degrees

Extreme heat continued to grip Telangana with temperatures crossing 46 degrees in several districts, while heatstroke claimed nine lives and authorities warned of continued hot conditions.

Telangana is witnessing one of the harshest spells of summer this season, with soaring temperatures and intense heatwave conditions affecting large parts of the state. Several districts recorded temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius, making outdoor activity difficult and increasing health risks for residents.

The highest temperature of 46.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dahegaon of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district. Other regions also experienced extreme heat, with Bellampalli in Mancherial district and Ramagundam in Peddapalli district registering 46.2 degrees Celsius. The relentless heat has left roads largely deserted during peak afternoon hours.

Authorities reported that nine people lost their lives due to suspected heatstroke across different districts on Friday alone. The deaths have raised concerns as temperatures continue to remain well above normal levels in many parts of Telangana.

Heatwave conditions were reported in around 46 mandals spread across multiple districts. Mancherial district recorded the highest impact, followed by Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Peddapalli, Nirmal, Jagitial, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, and Mulugu districts. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the hottest parts of the day.

Several locations including Khanapur, Dharmapuri, Munagala, Dornakal, Venkatapur, and Sangem also recorded temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius. Combined with strong hot winds, the weather has created challenging conditions for people working outdoors.

Despite the severe heat, weather officials have offered some relief in their latest forecast. While heatwave conditions are expected to continue for the next one or two days, scattered rainfall is likely in parts of northern, central, and southern Telangana from Sunday.

Meteorologists believe temperatures may begin to ease gradually after June 1 if rainfall activity increases. Until then, officials are urging people to stay hydrated, limit exposure to direct sunlight, and take precautions to prevent heat related illnesses.
