Vijay on TVK Ideology: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay said his party follows Periyar's social principles while respecting religious beliefs and emphasized governance focused on equality welfare and public participation.

Vijay on TVK Ideology: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has once again outlined the ideological position of his party, TVK, stating that it embraces the social reform principles of Periyar while maintaining respect for individual religious beliefs. He said the party does not support the rejection of faith and considers belief in God a personal choice.

Speaking during a discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Assembly, Vijay explained that TVK draws inspiration from Periyar’s vision of social justice and equality. However, he made it clear that the party does not endorse every aspect of Periyar’s philosophy, particularly views opposing religious faith.

Vijay stressed that his government is committed to the ideals of equal opportunity and social justice championed by Dr B R Ambedkar. He also said the administration follows the honest and people centric governance model associated with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj.

Responding to criticism that he is only an actor entering politics, Vijay said his political journey has been different from many others. According to him, several leaders establish political parties before engaging directly with the public, whereas he first connected with people and understood their concerns before launching his party.

The Chief Minister noted that his experiences among ordinary citizens helped shape his political vision and governance approach. He said direct interaction with people allowed him to understand their challenges and expectations more clearly.

Drawing comparisons with past administrations, Vijay referred to former Chief Ministers C N Annadurai and M G Ramachandran. He described Annadurai’s government as one for common people and MGR’s administration as one that strongly represented the interests of ordinary citizens.

Vijay expressed confidence that his government would continue that legacy and work beyond barriers of caste and religion. He said the goal is to build an administration that serves every section of society and remains closely connected to the aspirations of the people ahead of the 2026 elections.
