IIIT Hyderabad Launches Livability App to Simplify Urban Living Choices
The new Livability mobile platform by IIIT Hyderabad offers residents and newcomers reliable locality based information including healthcare, transport, education, environment and essential city infrastructure services.

Choosing the right neighbourhood in a growing city like Hyderabad can often become confusing for students, working professionals, and families shifting from other regions. To address this challenge, IIIT Hyderabad has developed a digital platform named Livability that helps people compare residential areas using verified civic and environmental data.
The application has been created by researchers and experts from the Product Labs team at IIIT Hyderabad. The platform brings together detailed information related to hospitals, schools, public transportation, drinking water access, pollution levels, and other important urban facilities in a single place.
Developers say the app is aimed at helping users make practical decisions before renting or buying homes in Hyderabad. Instead of depending on random online reviews or incomplete information, people can now evaluate locations using structured and trusted data sources.
The platform also includes information about metro rail access, bus connectivity, cinema halls, educational institutions, and surrounding infrastructure. Officials explained that the software analyses different factors affecting quality of life and presents them locality wise for easier understanding.
According to the development team, the data used in the application has been collected from Telangana government departments along with several authorised private agencies. This approach is expected to improve transparency and accuracy for users searching for better living conditions in the city.
Product Labs Head Y Prakash said the app immediately displays nearby services and facilities when a user searches for a specific area. He noted that the platform is especially useful for newcomers unfamiliar with Hyderabad’s residential landscape.
Researchers believe the app can also help residents understand environmental conditions such as air quality and water availability before finalising a place to stay. By combining civic information with urban analysis, the platform aims to support smarter city living decisions.
The Livability app is currently under testing and is expected to be released for public use free of cost in the near future. Officials hope the initiative will encourage technology driven urban planning and make city information more accessible to ordinary citizens.
