Telangana DGP Warns Against Misuse of Police Welfare Schemes

Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand has directed officials to ensure that welfare programmes meant for police personnel are implemented with complete transparency, warning that any misuse of these schemes for personal benefit will invite strict action.

While reviewing the functioning of the Police Welfare Society and the Arogya Bhadratha health scheme at the DGP office, Anand stressed that welfare initiatives must serve their intended purpose and should never become a source of financial irregularities. He said the actions of a few should not affect the interests of thousands of police families.

The DGP instructed officials to further strengthen welfare programmes covering healthcare, education, marriage assistance and insurance for police personnel and their dependents. He reiterated that the well being of police employees and their families remains one of the department’s highest priorities.

Officials informed the meeting that 33,126 police personnel and their family members received medical treatment through the Arogya Bhadratha scheme during 2025. Till June 2026, another 12,392 beneficiaries had availed healthcare under the programme. Expenditure under the scheme stood at Rs 181.74 crore in 2025, while Rs 73.61 crore had been spent up to June 2026.

Anand also reviewed financial protection available to families of police personnel who lose their lives while on duty. Under the Group Personal Accidental Insurance policy, Constables and Assistant Sub Inspectors are covered for Rs 5 lakh, Sub Inspectors and Inspectors for Rs 10 lakh, Deputy Superintendents of Police for Rs 15 lakh, and IPS officers and above receive insurance coverage of Rs 25 lakh.

The DGP said scholarship programmes are being extended to children of police personnel based on merit. Financial assistance is also being provided for students preparing for competitive examinations, including JEE, NEET and other national and state level entrance tests.

He instructed that revenue generated from police canteens and commercial complexes should be utilised for the Young India Police School, scholarships, civil services coaching, Group examination training, educational support and marriage assistance. He also asked officials to increase funding for these welfare initiatives.

Emphasising the use of technology, Anand directed the department to establish a comprehensive digital platform to monitor beneficiaries, track fund utilisation and improve service delivery. He also called for the formation of rank wise welfare committees and transparent fixation of rents for departmental commercial properties.

To improve financial support, the DGP asked officials to ensure that eligible personnel can access open plot loans at 9 percent, home loans at 6.75 percent, personal loans up to Rs 5 lakh at 11 percent, up to Rs 6 lakh for a daughter’s marriage, and education loans up to Rs 30 lakh for higher studies in India or abroad.
