First Flood Warning Issued at Bhadrachalam as Godavari River Continues Rising

Authorities have issued the first flood warning at Bhadrachalam after the Godavari River continued to swell due to heavy inflows from upstream regions. Officials said the river level reached 43 feet by Friday morning, prompting precautionary measures as water levels are expected to rise further.

Several low lying areas near the river have already been affected. Floodwaters have submerged the Kalyana Katta and bathing ghats, while officials are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to remain alert.

The impact of the rising Godavari is also being felt across Mulugu district, where the river is flowing at a high level. A massive volume of floodwater is entering from the Medigadda barrage, forcing authorities to lift multiple gates at the Sammakka Barrage in Thupakulagudem to release excess water downstream.

Flooding has disrupted transportation in several parts of the region. At Tekulagudem in Wazeedu mandal, overflowing water has covered sections of the roadway, bringing traffic between Telangana and Chhattisgarh to a halt.

Connectivity has also been affected in Venkatapuram mandal after floodwater flowed over the Bodapuram bridge. As a result, vehicle movement between Venkatapuram and Bhadrachalam has been temporarily interrupted.

Officials have urged people living along the riverbanks to remain cautious and avoid entering flooded areas. Disaster management teams continue to monitor the river as upstream inflows remain strong and the flood situation develops.
