Dowry Dispute Ends in Tragedy as Newly Married Couple Found Dead in Sangareddy

A young woman was allegedly killed over demands for a motorcycle in Sangareddy district, while her husband later died by suicide, leaving both families devastated.

A shocking family tragedy unfolded in Telangana’s Sangareddy district, where a newly married woman was allegedly killed by her husband during a dispute over dowry demands. The accused later died by suicide, bringing a heartbreaking end to a marriage that had lasted less than a year.

The incident came to light in a mango orchard on the outskirts of Marepally village in Kondapur mandal. Family members returning home discovered the couple dead and immediately alerted local authorities.

According to police and local residents, Dasari Anjaiah married Yadamma, a resident of Sanjeevraopet village in Narayankhed mandal, around eleven months ago. The couple initially lived peacefully and worked alongside family members in a leased mango orchard, where they earned a livelihood by selling mangoes.

Investigators say tensions gradually developed after Anjaiah allegedly became addicted to alcohol. Family members claim he frequently pressured his wife and her family to provide a motorcycle and often argued with her over the issue.

On the day of the incident, Anjaiah’s mother had reportedly gone to a nearby town to sell mangoes, leaving the couple alone at home. Police believe another argument broke out regarding the motorcycle demand, escalating into a violent confrontation.

During the dispute, Anjaiah allegedly attacked Yadamma and later strangled her using a scarf inside their residence. After realizing the consequences of his actions and fearing legal action, he is believed to have taken his own life by hanging himself from a nearby mango tree.

The deaths left both families in deep shock. Relatives who arrived later found the bodies and informed police, triggering a large gathering of villagers at the orchard.

Senior police officials visited the scene and conducted a detailed inspection. Evidence was collected with the assistance of forensic teams, while statements were recorded from family members and witnesses.

Based on a complaint filed by Yadamma’s father, who alleged that his daughter was harassed over demands for a motorcycle, police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the continuing problem of dowry related harassment and the devastating impact such disputes can have on families and young couples.
