Secunderabad Shree Jagannath Yatra to Take Place on July 16 with Traditional Rath Procession

Secunderabad is preparing to host its annual Shree Jagannath Yatra on July 16, continuing a tradition that has been observed for well over a century. Devotees from Hyderabad and nearby districts are expected to gather in large numbers to take part in the grand Rath procession dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra.

The yatra is organised every year by the Shree Jagannath Swamy Ramgopal Trust, which has been conducting the event for nearly 130 years. The celebration is held in line with the famous Rath Yatra of Jagannath Puri and remains one of the city’s oldest and most significant religious processions.

Devotees will be able to have darshan at the Jagannath Temple in General Bazaar from 6.45 am onwards. Temple authorities have announced that darshan will continue until 1.00 pm, after which preparations will begin for the evening procession.

The ceremonial Rath Yatra is scheduled to commence at 4.00 pm from the temple premises. Decorated chariots carrying the deities will move through General Bazaar before reaching M G Road, where the procession is expected to pass between 6.30 pm and 11.00 pm.

After crossing M G Road, the procession will continue through Hill Street and Ranigunj before returning to the Jagannath Temple. Organisers expect the chariots to reach the temple at around 4.00 am the following day, marking the conclusion of the religious event.

Every year, the yatra attracts thousands of devotees who participate in the celebrations with prayers, devotional songs, and traditional rituals. The organisers have made arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the procession and facilitate the movement of devotees throughout the route.

The Shree Jagannath Yatra continues to be one of Secunderabad’s most cherished religious traditions, reflecting the city’s rich cultural heritage and long standing devotion to Lord Jagannath.
