Heavy Rain Likely to Continue Across Hyderabad as IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Residents of Hyderabad have been advised to stay prepared for another spell of wet weather after the India Meteorological Department forecast continued rainfall across the city on Wednesday. Following intense showers over the past day, weather officials warned that conditions remain favourable for more rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

The IMD has placed the Cyberabad region under a yellow alert, while similar warnings have been extended across all districts of Telangana. According to the department, the city is expected to experience overcast skies throughout the day, with intermittent rain likely during the morning before weather conditions remain unstable into the evening.

The heavy rainfall recorded on Tuesday affected normal life in several parts of Hyderabad. Water accumulated on major roads, slowing traffic and creating long vehicle queues during peak commuting hours. In response, the Hyderabad Traffic Police appealed to residents to postpone non essential travel whenever possible until road conditions improve.

To review the situation firsthand, Joint Commissioner of Police Traffic Joel Davis visited several flood prone junctions, including Lakdikapul, Ayodhya Junction, and PTI Masab Tank. During the inspection, officials assessed drainage arrangements and examined measures being taken to keep traffic moving safely through affected stretches.

Emergency response teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency remained deployed throughout the city to tackle rain related incidents. Their teams cleared waterlogged roads, managed traffic movement in areas such as Krishna Nagar and HCU, removed fallen tree branches from roads in Banjara Hills and Lakdikapul, and also rescued a stranded cow in Secunderabad.

Director General of Police C V Anand appreciated the efforts of police personnel who continued working despite adverse weather. He praised traffic officers for remaining at busy intersections during heavy rain to ensure commuter safety and maintain orderly movement across the city.

Across Telangana, rainfall remained widespread on Tuesday. Jayashankar district received the highest rainfall at 196 millimetres, while significant showers were also reported from Jagtial, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Mulugu, Mancherial, and Nizamabad. Within Hyderabad, Musheerabad recorded the city’s highest rainfall at 54.5 millimetres, followed by substantial rainfall in Shaikpet, Tirumalagiri, Golkonda, and Khairatabad.

Officials have advised citizens to remain alert, monitor weather updates, avoid flooded roads, and cooperate with emergency personnel until rainfall activity begins to weaken.
