Toddler Vision Loss: A 19 month old child allegedly lost vision after nasal drops were mistakenly applied to the eyes at a government hospital as authorities launched an official investigation.
Toddler Vision Loss: A heartbreaking medical incident in Madhya Pradesh has sparked serious concerns after a 19 month old child allegedly lost vision following treatment at a government hospital. Health authorities have now ordered an investigation into the incident as the family seeks strict action against those responsible.
According to the child’s father, Indraj Vishwakarma, he took his 19 month old son Vinay to the Banda Civil Hospital in Sagar district on May 29 after the child developed a cold and redness in the eyes. During treatment, a doctor allegedly administered saline nasal drops into the child’s eyes instead of using them for the nose.
Family members said the child was also prescribed paracetamol syrup, given an injection and other medicines before being discharged. However, within a few hours, the child’s condition reportedly worsened, prompting doctors to refer him to the district hospital and later to AIIMS Bhopal for advanced treatment.
After conducting medical examinations, doctors at AIIMS reportedly informed the family that the child had permanently lost vision. The family alleges that the tragic outcome resulted from negligence during treatment at the Banda Civil Hospital.

The child’s father has lodged a formal complaint with the Banda Police Station, demanding strict action against the doctor and hospital staff involved in the case. The incident has drawn widespread attention and raised fresh questions about patient safety in government healthcare facilities.
Following the complaint, the district health department constituted a special inquiry committee to investigate the allegations. Medical Officer Yogendra Khatik said the committee is examining all aspects of the case and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The alleged incident has shocked local residents, with many expressing concern over the possibility of medical negligence leading to such a serious and irreversible consequence for a young child.
