The Trinamool Congress has suffered another political setback after senior leader Chandrima Bhattacharya resigned from all positions she held within the party. The development has added to the growing challenges for party chief Mamata Banerjee as the organization continues to undergo major restructuring in West Bengal.
Resignation After Organizational Changes
Bhattacharya submitted her resignation from the post of West Bengal TMC president along with every other responsibility assigned to her within the party. In her resignation letter, she stated that she was stepping down from the position entrusted to her during the party meeting held at Kalighat on June 3, 2025. She also expressed her continued respect for Mamata Banerjee despite her decision to resign.
The party had appointed Bhattacharya as the state president following its electoral setback. Earlier, after the disappointing election performance against the BJP, Mamata Banerjee dissolved all party committees on June 3 as part of a large-scale organizational overhaul. Later, Subrata Bakshi was named the new state president.
Meeting With Rebel Leaders Raises Questions
Only a few hours after announcing her resignation, Bhattacharya reportedly met leaders associated with the rebel faction within the Trinamool Congress. The meeting has triggered political speculation about possible internal differences and the future direction of the party.
Sharp Response From TMC Camp
Reacting strongly to the resignation, TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh questioned the timing of Bhattacharya’s decision. He remarked that she had enjoyed important ministerial responsibilities during the Mamata Banerjee government and asked why she had not resigned while holding those influential positions.
Bhattacharya, a former West Bengal minister, was widely regarded as one of Mamata Banerjee’s trusted associates. Her exit from all party roles marks another significant development for the Trinamool Congress as it works to strengthen its organization ahead of future political battles.
