Supriya Yarlagadda Among 18 New Members
The Centre has reconstituted the Central Board of Film Certification with 18 members, including producer Supriya Yarlagadda, for a three year term.
The Central Board of Film Certification has been reconstituted with a new panel of 18 members, with Telugu film producer Supriya Yarlagadda among the newly appointed members. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued the notification on September 16, and the appointments came into effect immediately.
Supriya Yarlagadda, who is associated with Annapurna Studios, has been given representation from the Telugu film industry on the new board. Her appointment has attracted attention in Tollywood, particularly because of her long association with film production and the Annapurna Studios banner.
The new panel includes several well known personalities from Indian cinema and entertainment. Bollywood actors Preity Zinta, Suniel Shetty, Pankaj Tripathi and Manoj Joshi are among the members. Actress Pallavi Joshi and television personality Roopali Ganguly have also been included.
The board also features filmmaker Priyadarshan, Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, filmmaker Abhishek Jain, filmmaker Neela Madhab Panda, composer Ricky Kej, singer Hansraj Hans and writer Yatindra Mishra. Other members include Vinod Anupam, Vaman Kendre and Ramesh Pathange.
The appointments have been made under the provisions of the Cinematograph Act. The newly appointed members will serve for a period of three years, unless further orders are issued before the completion of their tenure.
The Central Board of Film Certification plays an important role in the certification of films released for public exhibition in India. Films submitted for theatrical release go through the certification process before they can be publicly screened.
The reconstitution of the board has also become a topic of discussion within the film industry. The inclusion of personalities from cinema, television, music and other creative fields gives the new panel a wider representation of the entertainment sector.
