Sonam Wangchuk Continues Hunger Strike, Vows to Stay Until July 20

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has reaffirmed his decision to continue his indefinite hunger strike, saying he is determined to remain on the fast until July 20 despite growing concerns over his health.

Addressing supporters at the protest site, Wangchuk admitted that his physical strength had weakened after nearly three weeks without food. However, he said his determination remained firm and appealed to people to participate in large numbers in the peaceful march to Parliament scheduled for July 20.

Medical professionals monitoring his condition have reportedly warned that the prolonged fast has reached a serious stage and could lead to severe health complications if it continues. Despite the warnings, Wangchuk maintained that ending the protest without any response from the government would undermine the purpose of the movement.

The matter has also drawn the attention of the Delhi High Court, which directed authorities to keep a close watch on Wangchuk’s health and ensure medical assistance is provided whenever necessary.

Meanwhile, several student activists participating in separate hunger strikes at the protest venue are also facing deteriorating health conditions. Organisers said the students remain committed to the protest and intend to continue their demonstration in solidarity with Wangchuk.

The ongoing agitation seeks action over alleged examination irregularities and includes demands related to accountability and compensation for affected families. Organisers have called for a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20 to highlight their concerns.
