SC Refuses Urgent Hearing on Complete Cow Slaughter Ban Plea
The Supreme Court declined an urgent hearing on a petition seeking strict enforcement of cow slaughter prohibition laws ahead of Bakrid celebrations across the country.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to grant an urgent hearing on a public interest petition seeking strict implementation of laws related to a complete ban on cow slaughter ahead of the Bakrid festival. The matter was placed before the court requesting immediate attention, but the bench did not find grounds for urgency.
The petition was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi. While responding to the request for urgent listing, the bench observed that the issue had been brought before the court at the last moment and questioned the need for immediate intervention.
Advocate Barun Kumar Sinha raised the matter before the court and requested that the case be listed for hearing at the earliest. He informed the bench that Bakrid celebrations were approaching and argued that the petition involved implementation of existing laws related to cow slaughter prevention.
The petition was filed by Satish Kumar Agarwal, former vice president of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha. It seeks directions for effective enforcement of laws aimed at protecting cows and their offspring from slaughter.
Apart from requesting implementation of cow slaughter prohibition laws, the plea also asks for guidelines to regulate slaughterhouses in different states according to legal provisions. It further seeks directions for state governments to ensure compliance with the existing legal framework.
The court’s refusal for an urgent hearing means the matter will follow the normal legal process for consideration.
