Police Issue Notice to Former Minister Roja Over Newspaper Burning Case

Former Andhra Pradesh minister and YSRCP leader Roja has been served a police notice directing her to appear for questioning on July 30 in connection with a case involving the burning of newspaper copies during a protest. Tirupati East Police delivered the notice at her residence in Nagari of Chittoor district.

The case stems from a protest held a few days ago after Roja alleged that a daily newspaper had published false reports targeting women from the families of YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and other party leaders. As part of the demonstration, newspaper copies were set on fire, leading to the registration of a police case.

Responding to the notice, Roja claimed the action was politically motivated and accused the coalition government of misusing its authority to target opposition leaders. She said the case was part of a broader campaign of political vendetta rather than a genuine law enforcement measure.

Roja also alleged that the state government was attempting to silence those who questioned its decisions and public policies. She argued that peaceful protests are protected in a democratic system and questioned why criminal cases were being filed against those expressing dissent.

The YSRCP leader further accused the government of ignoring pressing public concerns while focusing on cases against opposition leaders. According to her, issues such as law and order and the safety of women and children require greater attention than political confrontations.

She maintained that YSRCP workers and leaders would not be intimidated by what she described as false and politically driven cases. Roja demanded the immediate withdrawal of the case and urged the government not to use its power to suppress political opponents, insisting that her party would continue its democratic protests.
