PM Modi on Space Research: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the benefits of space research and scientific discoveries to reach people across the world, stressing the need for a safe, sustainable and responsible space sector.

Modi made the remarks virtually while addressing the first International Space Summit being held in Paris, France. He said India wants the use of outer space to remain guided by international law and focused on the larger interests of humanity.

Highlighting India’s approach to space exploration, Modi said the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam continues to shape the country’s thinking. He said the principle of one Earth, one family and one future should extend beyond the planet and into space as well.

The Prime Minister also praised ISRO for its contribution to India’s space programme. He credited generations of scientists, engineers and technical experts for building the organisation and earning international confidence through years of dedicated work.

According to Modi, space technology is already making a difference in everyday life. Farmers and fishermen benefit from satellite based services, while weather information and early warnings help authorities prepare for natural disasters and reduce potential losses.

India’s launch capabilities have also gained an international presence. Modi said Indian rockets have carried 430 satellites belonging to 34 countries into space, reflecting the growing cooperation between India and other nations.

He pointed to the Chandrayaan 3 mission as another major milestone. India became the first country to reach the region near the Moon’s south pole with the successful landing of the mission.

Looking ahead, Modi said India has set ambitious goals for its space programme. The country aims to establish its own space station by 2035 and hopes to send an Indian astronaut to the Moon by 2040.

He stressed that the benefits of these activities should not remain limited to India. The broader objective, he said, is to ensure that advances in space technology and research contribute to the welfare of people around the world.

The Prime Minister also noted that India’s private sector is becoming increasingly active in space activities alongside ISRO. The growing participation of private companies is expected to add further momentum to the country’s space ambitions.

Meanwhile, Modi also held a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Thursday. During the call, the two leaders discussed ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Germany.

Modi described Germany as an important pillar of India’s relationship with Europe. He said both countries agreed to deepen cooperation in areas including trade, investment, defence, alternative energy sources and advanced technology.

The conversation comes as India and Germany mark 75 years of diplomatic relations. Modi said stronger cooperation between the two countries would help serve the interests of their people while expanding their strategic partnership.
