Mumbai Rain Red Alert: Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Red Alert Across City
The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai as heavy rainfall continues, prompting school closures, traffic disruptions, and emergency measures across the city and nearby districts.
Mumbai Rain Red Alert: Mumbai remains on high alert after the India Meteorological Department issued a Red Alert warning of extremely heavy rainfall across the city and surrounding coastal districts. Authorities have stepped up emergency preparedness as continuous showers continue to affect normal life.
Keeping student safety in mind, officials announced the closure of all schools and colleges in Mumbai from Saturday afternoon. Similar precautionary measures have also been implemented in parts of Thane and the Kalyan Dombivli region as the weather department forecast worsening conditions.
According to officials, several parts of Mumbai recorded nearly 100 millimeters of rainfall during the past 24 hours. The IMD has warned that the Red Alert will remain in effect until July 6 for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts. Strong winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour along with extremely heavy rain are expected during this period.
Relentless rainfall has severely affected transportation across the city. Roads in several low lying areas have been submerged, resulting in long traffic jams and significant delays for commuters. Mumbai’s suburban railway network, considered the city’s lifeline, has also experienced disruptions due to waterlogging.
Civic authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors unless absolutely essential. Emergency teams have been deployed to flood prone locations, while dewatering pumps are operating in waterlogged areas including the Andheri East subway to clear accumulated rainwater as quickly as possible.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely and have appealed to the public to follow weather advisories until conditions improve.
