Mamata House Arrest Row: TMC Alleges Mamata House Arrest: Fresh political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after leaders of the All India Trinamool Congress alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was effectively placed under house arrest and prevented from leaving her residence.
According to senior TMC leaders, the restrictions were intended to stop Mamata Banerjee from visiting the family of a 12 year old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district. The allegations have further intensified the political atmosphere in the state.
TMC leaders, including Derek O’Brien and Mahua Moitra, claimed on social media that a large deployment of police personnel and central security forces was made near Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat, Kolkata. They also shared visuals showing police vehicles positioned on roads leading to the residence, alleging that the arrangements were aimed at restricting her movement.
Reacting to the situation, Mahua Moitra criticized the handling of the matter, while Derek O’Brien questioned the decision to prevent a senior political leader from meeting the victim’s family. The allegations have sparked widespread political debate.
Meanwhile, police investigating the Baruipur incident have arrested four accused in connection with the crime. Suvendu Adhikari stated that a Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the case and assured that strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
