Kishtwar Cloudburst: Cloudburst in Kishtwar Triggers Flash Floods and Rescue Operations

Kishtwar Cloudburst: A powerful cloudburst struck Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir, triggering flash floods and massive landslides that disrupted normal life and damaged infrastructure. Rescue teams were immediately deployed as authorities began clearing debris and restoring access to affected areas.

The heavy rainfall caused large volumes of mud and rocks to slide onto roads leading to an under construction 540 megawatt hydropower project. Several vehicles, machinery and construction equipment were buried under debris, forcing officials to launch an extensive rescue and clearance operation.

Authorities said continuous rainfall worsened the situation, cutting off road connectivity at multiple locations. Heavy machinery has been brought in to remove mud and rocks while efforts continue to recover stranded vehicles and reopen blocked routes.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, the Army and local police are jointly carrying out rescue operations. Officials have also established a control room and help desk to assist residents, workers and tourists affected by the disaster.

The full extent of damage is still being assessed. Officials said there is currently no confirmed information regarding casualties or property losses, and the situation remains under close monitoring as rescue efforts continue.
