Jammu Kashmir Man Arrested in Pakistan Honeytrap Spy Case

Security agencies arrested a Jammu Kashmir youth after he allegedly shared sensitive army bunker photographs with a Pakistan based agent who trapped him through social media conversations and fake identity.

Indian security agencies have uncovered another suspected Pakistan linked honeytrap operation targeting youth through social media platforms. A young man from Jammu and Kashmir was arrested after investigators found that he had allegedly shared photographs of army bunkers and sensitive defence locations with a woman believed to be connected to Pakistan’s intelligence network.

According to police officials, the accused was identified as 23 year old Karan from Makwal village in Jammu region. Investigators said he came into contact with a woman through Snapchat several months ago after accepting a friend request from a profile posing as a Border Security Force personnel.

Officials revealed that the woman slowly gained his trust through regular chats and video calls before convincing him that she was serving in Punjab and had recently been transferred to the Sundarbani sector in Rajouri. She later requested a WhatsApp one time password claiming network issues and emergency communication problems in the border area.

Believing her story, Karan reportedly shared an OTP received on his mother’s mobile phone. Investigators said this allowed the suspected ISI handler to gain control of the WhatsApp account and use it for intelligence gathering activities.

After securing his confidence, the woman allegedly began asking for photographs and videos related to military bunkers, defence installations and newly built flyovers near sensitive areas in Jammu region. Authorities said Karan received money in his bank account after sending initial photographs, which eventually raised suspicion among intelligence agencies monitoring unusual financial transactions.

Indian Military Intelligence reportedly tracked his movements for several weeks before alerting Jammu Police. A joint team later conducted a raid in Makwal village and took him into custody. During interrogation, officials claimed the accused admitted to sharing sensitive information and digital evidence recovered from his mobile phone supported the investigation.

Security agencies also linked the case to a wider pattern of cross border espionage attempts using fake social media identities. In another recent case from Punjab’s Pathankot region, police arrested a man accused of live streaming movements of army and paramilitary convoys through a CCTV camera installed near the Jammu Pathankot highway.

Following these incidents, senior officials urged citizens to remain alert while interacting with unknown people online. Authorities warned people not to share personal details, OTPs or sensitive information with strangers on social media platforms and advised immediate reporting of suspicious profiles to police.
