India Attends Khamenei Funeral: India has sent an official delegation to Iran to participate in the funeral ceremonies of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Representing the Indian government, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain attended the events in Tehran and paid their respects on behalf of the nation.

Following the ceremony, Pabitra Margherita said India conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Iran. He shared that the visit reflected India’s respect for the late leader and its commitment to maintaining strong relations with Iran.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the visit demonstrates the long standing friendship between India and Iran. According to the ministry, the relationship is built on deep historical connections, strong people to people ties, and continued cooperation across political and economic sectors.

The funeral ceremonies are being held over several days. Events began in Tehran and will continue with a funeral procession in the Iranian capital before moving to Qom. The final burial is scheduled to take place in Mashhad on July 9.

Earlier, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had visited the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, where he met Ambassador Mohammad Fattahi and signed the condolence book. The gesture reaffirmed India’s sympathy and solidarity with Iran ahead of the official funeral ceremonies.
