The flood damaged a remote mountain road, leaving travelers unable to continue their journey for several hours.
The incident occurred near the Jhalma stream, where melting snow caused water levels to rise sharply. The powerful flow washed away part of the road, cutting off access to the area. Lahaul and Spiti Superintendent of Police Shivani Mehla confirmed that no casualties or injuries have been reported.
Soon after the incident, teams from the Border Roads Organisation and local administration reached the site and launched emergency operations. Restoration work on the damaged road began immediately, with officials expressing confidence that the route would be reopened within a few hours to safely evacuate stranded tourists.
Authorities clarified that the flash flood was not caused by heavy rainfall but by the sudden melting of glaciers in the region. They also advised visitors traveling through high altitude Himalayan areas to remain alert, monitor weather updates, and follow official safety instructions as changing climate conditions continue to increase the risk of such incidents.
