A four storey building collapsed in Bhiwandi Maharashtra late at night leaving eight people dead while rescue teams continue searching for those feared trapped beneath the debris.

At least eight people lost their lives after a four storey residential building collapsed in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, late on Thursday night. Rescue teams, along with local authorities, continued search operations as several people were believed to be trapped under the debris.

According to police, the incident took place around 11.30 pm when most residents were asleep. The building had 48 rooms, with around 12 rooms on each floor. The sudden collapse left many occupants buried beneath the rubble, prompting an immediate rescue effort.

Residents living nearby rushed to the site and helped rescue several people before emergency teams arrived. Disaster response personnel and local officials have been working continuously to clear the debris and search for survivors.

Municipal authorities said the building was constructed about ten years ago and had developed visible cracks. Officials had previously advised residents to vacate the structure due to safety concerns. However, the occupants reportedly continued to stay in the building and unauthorized repair work was being carried out.

Authorities stated that many of those who died were workers engaged in the repair work at the time of the collapse. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident while rescue operations remain underway.
