BRICS Delhi Declaration: The BRICS countries have approved the Delhi Declaration, bringing the member nations together on several key global issues despite differences over the ongoing Gulf conflict.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the adoption of the declaration, highlighting the consensus reached among the participating countries. Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia also agreed to the document despite tensions linked to the conflict in West Asia.
The declaration strongly raised concerns about unilateral tariffs that are not in line with World Trade Organization rules. BRICS nations also opposed unilateral restrictive measures that they said go against international law.
The grouping reiterated that international disputes should be addressed through dialogue and diplomatic channels rather than confrontation. The leaders also discussed the growing risks linked to armed conflicts and nuclear weapons, stressing the need for greater international cooperation.
Terrorism was another major issue addressed during the summit. BRICS leaders condemned terrorism in all its forms and called for stronger action against terrorist activities and those providing support to them. The leaders also condemned last year’s Pahalgam terror attack and expressed opposition to cross border terrorism.
The declaration underlined the importance of collective efforts to deal with global challenges and maintain international peace and stability. The agreement was seen as an important outcome of India’s diplomatic efforts to bring countries with differing positions onto a common platform.
Following the summit proceedings, BRICS leaders visited the Bharat Innovates exhibition. They toured the exhibition, posed for photographs and participated in a tree planting activity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to host a special dinner for the leaders attending the BRICS summit at 7.30 pm. The gathering is expected to provide another opportunity for informal interaction among the participating leaders.
