Veteran Telugu Actress Pavala Shyamala Passes Away at 74
Veteran actress Pavala Shyamala passed away after battling illness in Hyderabad leaving behind a remarkable legacy of more than four decades in Telugu cinema and theatre.

Veteran Telugu actress and renowned character artist Pavala Shyamala passed away in Hyderabad after a prolonged illness. She was undergoing treatment at Osmania Hospital, where doctors confirmed that she suffered a severe heart attack shortly after midnight. Her mortal remains have been kept at the hospital mortuary.
The news of her demise has left the Telugu film industry in deep mourning. Known for her effortless performances and natural screen presence, Pavala Shyamala earned the admiration of audiences across generations through a wide range of memorable character roles.
Her acting career spanned more than four decades, during which she appeared in over 250 films. Although she made her film debut with Babai Abbai in 1985, it was K Viswanath’s Swarnakamalam that brought her widespread recognition. She later impressed audiences with notable performances in films including Khadgam, Andhrawala, Athadu and Golimaar.
Born in 1951 in Amaravathi of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, her original name was Neti Shyamala. Before entering films, she built her career as a stage performer and radio artist. A popular stage play titled Pavala became closely associated with her, and the name eventually became part of her identity throughout her career.
With her expressive acting, impeccable comic timing and ability to portray simple yet unforgettable characters, Pavala Shyamala carved out a unique place in Telugu cinema. Her passing marks the end of a distinguished artistic journey, and many from the film fraternity and her admirers have paid tribute to her lasting contribution to the industry.
