Telangana Gets 810 More MBBS Seats Ahead of 2026 Admissions
Medical education in Telangana is set for a major expansion after the National Medical Commission approved hundreds of additional MBBS seats across government and private colleges for the next academic year.
Students aspiring to pursue medicine in Telangana will have more opportunities from the 2026 27 academic session after the National Medical Commission approved 810 additional MBBS seats for the state. The increase is expected to strengthen medical education and improve access to undergraduate medical courses.
With the latest approval, Telangana’s 66 medical colleges will collectively offer 10250 MBBS seats, up from the previous 9440 seats. The revised seat matrix will be implemented during NEET UG 2026 counselling.
Government medical colleges account for the biggest share of the expansion. The total number of seats in 30 state run medical colleges has increased from 5150 to 5850, adding 700 new seats. The move is expected to benefit a larger number of students seeking affordable medical education.
Several government institutions have also received additional capacity. Government Medical College Mahabubnagar and Government Medical College Siddipet have each been allotted 25 more seats, while Government Medical College Nizamabad has received 30 additional seats.
Private medical colleges have also expanded their intake. The total number of MBBS seats across 36 private colleges has increased from 4290 to 4400. Among them, Maheshwara Medical College and Hospital, Shadan Institute of Medical Sciences, and MNR Medical College and Hospital have each secured 100 additional seats.
Other institutions, including Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Malla Reddy Medical College for Women, Mamata Academy of Medical Sciences, and Sri Venkata Sai Medical College, have each been granted 50 extra seats, further increasing admission opportunities.
The National Medical Commission said the revised seat allocation applies to medical colleges recognised under its approval process and clarified that Institutes of National Importance, including AIIMS, are not part of this seat matrix.
The expansion is expected to provide more opportunities for aspiring doctors while strengthening Telangana’s position as one of India’s leading destinations for medical education.
