Sensex Nifty Fall: Sensex Plunges Over 1,200 Points as Nifty Falls Below 23,100

Indian stock markets ended sharply lower on Thursday as heavy selling pushed the Sensex down over 1,200 points and dragged the Nifty below 23,100.

Sensex Nifty Fall: Indian stock markets ended sharply lower on Thursday as selling continued through the session. Both the Sensex and Nifty lost more than 1.5%, with the benchmarks finishing near their day’s lows.

The Sensex closed at 73,580.54, falling 1,247.71 points, or 1.67%. It moved between 74,362.29 and 73,563.92 during the session.

The Nifty 50 also took a major hit. It ended at 23,063.10, down 383.70 points, or 1.64%. The index touched 23,281.95 at its highest point before slipping to 23,046.15.

Selling was visible across several parts of the market. Banking and financial stocks faced pressure, while midcap and smallcap shares also declined. The Nifty Midcap 100 dropped 2.25%, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 1.53%.

Global market signals added to the nervousness. US Treasury yields moved higher, while crude oil prices remained elevated. Both developments kept investors cautious during the trading session.

Higher oil prices are particularly important for India because the country imports a large share of its crude requirement. Rising input costs can put pressure on businesses and the broader economy.

The jump in US bond yields also remained on investors’ radar. With yields moving higher, global investors continued to assess where they would get better returns, adding to the pressure on riskier assets.

Thursday’s fall left the two benchmark indices at their lowest levels in several months. The decline was broad based, rather than being confined to one particular group of stocks.

By the end of trading, the Sensex had given up more than 1,200 points and the Nifty had fallen below 23,100. Investors will now watch global cues, crude prices and bond yields closely in the next trading sessions.
